Death of a 16 year-old boy, Emilio Villamar
On June 4, 2009 Weston Lawyers held a press conference regarding one of our cases that will be going to trial before the end of the year. It involves the death of a 16 year-old boy, Emilio Villamar. He was prescribed various atypical anti-psychotic medications by Dr. Sohail Punjawami. Dr. Punjawami is the physician that prescribed the same or similar drugs to seven year old Gabriel Myers who recently committed suicide. Drugs such as Seroquel, Geodon and similar drugs are not intended for children, not approved by the FDA for pediatric use and moreover, their side effects are potentially dangerous.
At the press conference, Ms. Norma Tringali, the mother of Emilio Villamar and Attorney Michael Freedland were interviewed regarding this tragic case. Elements of the press conference were featured on various evening newscasts. It was also covered by both the Sun-Sentinel and Miami Herald in the June 5, 2009 editions. Links to both are below. Stay tuned to the blog for further developments in this case. |
