Freedland Russo Co-counsel Announces $2.3 Billion Whistleblower Settlement Against Pfizer
The latest record breaking case in the news is further proof that our society has now made the decision to hold those who take advantage of us accountable. The pharmaceutical companies that we once heralded as Saviors have let us down in the name of greed. When we recently settled the first whistleblower case that topped $1 Billion, it was the largest of its kind ever recorded. More importantly, it set the tone for accountability in the pharmaceutical industry. However, we were confident it wouldn’t be the last. Freedland Russo longtime partner and co-counsel on our groundbreaking Lilly decision has announced its involvement on this most recent record-breaking whistleblower case. Attorney Steve Sheller declared his firm’s involvement in the $2.3 billion settlement against Pfizer for the “off label” marketing of their drug Zyvox, once again shining the light on the greed of big pharmaceutical companies.
We have learned a lot over the years while working on cases involving “off label” marketing of drugs not approved by the FDA. Unfortunately, this practice has become too commonplace and needs to be stopped. Those individuals brave enough to come forward and stand up to the greed of these pharmaceutical giants are the first step in accountability. In the end, our job is to help the whistleblower get what they deserve while, at the same time, never losing site of the larger responsibility we have to the public.
For some time now on this blog, we have been calling on consumers to become active in their own health care by researching the prescriptions given to them by their physicians. It’s clear that the drug companies are not taking the responsibility that they should. With large PR departments and massive marketing budgets, they often spin a web of deceit that makes their products sound like “miracle drugs.” You can rest assured that there are no such drugs on the market! As always it is “buyer beware.”
For our part, we will continue our quest to stand up for the rights of both consumers and whistleblowers. It is clear that the litigation strategies we have developed over the years are making a significant difference both in the legal community and to clients everywhere. We are thankful for that opportunity. |
