On Being A Go-Giver and not just a Go Getter!
It started more than 20 years ago. I remember the first Rotary meeting that I ever attended with my dad as a young teenager. I was astonished at the caliber of people that were there and the extent of their involvement. These, like my dad, were busy professionals dedicated to their careers. But something was different about them. It was their passion to give back. It was both challenging and life changing. Several years later, I got my chance to make a difference. After visiting numerous Rotary Clubs in the South Florida community, I stumbled on the Rotary Club of Weston. I knew instantly that was the club for me. That is where I met my good friend and current partner, Michael Freedland. Several years later each of us served as President of the club.
Rotary International is a great organization. Its mission according to the website states. “Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In 168 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 Rotary clubs...The main objective of Rotary is service in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today’s most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers and other professionals and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is “Service above Self.”
Giving back through organizations like Rotary creates unmatched moments of fulfillment like the smile on the face of a deserving scholarship recipient or the thankful look from someone who will have another meal because of all of us working together. The winning of large legal cases pales in significance next to the difference that we are making around the world through Rotary. That is why our firm is proud to be the title sponsor for the 21st Annual Rotary Club of Weston Golf Tournament to be held on Monday April 20, 2009 at the Weston Hills Country Club. For more information on other sponsorship opportunities or to participate call (943) 467-6400 or visit http://www.westonrotary.org for further information. Start being a go-giver today, you’ll be glad you did. |
