Spa Visit Case Gone Horribly Wrong – Update 10/2/09
Many of you have been following the case in which our firm, Freedland Russo, LLC has been retained. It is the tragic story of 37 year old mother of three, Rohie Kah-Orukatan. After her visit to the Weston Med Spa to undergo a procedure she is now on life support and her family struggles with decisions they are now forced to make. Their children, all under the age of seven, face a life without a mother.
On Wednesday, September 30, 2009, ABC’s Good Morning America aired a featured story on this tragic case. Already, the investigation has uncovered interesting facts that will likely have an impact on the legal case. The attorney for Dr. Omar J. Brito, the physician who performed the procedure on Mrs. Orukotan, has now indicated that it was some form of liposuction. At the same time, Dr. Brito’s attorney acknowledged that the MedSpa was not licensed to perform that type of surgical procedure.
Additionally, we have also learned that this is not the first time Dr. Brito has faced a problem. In 2006, he was fined $5,000 for his role in an insurance fraud scheme.

Law Offices of Freedland Russo Tapped To Handle Tragic Case - Tuesday, September 29, 2009
The Law Offices of Freedland Russo announced that they have been retained in the tragic case of 37 year old Rohie Kah-Orukotan. Mrs. Kah-Orukotan is now on life support and in critical condition after a visit to the Weston Med Spa/Weston Tanning Salon. Although she had frequented the facility before, her September 25th appointment went terribly wrong. Mrs. Kah-Orukotan opted for a service that the spa “routinely performs” and markets. Tragically, the visit left her on life support and her husband and three young children, ages 4, 5 and 7 facing the possibility of life without her.
“From what we have learned thus far, I can unequivocally state that something terrible happened at the spa that day” said Michael Freedland one of the attorney’s now handling the case. Partner Anthony Russo agrees. “This is a classic case of a person who trusts those who are caring for her to do the right thing and something in that process fails her horribly” said Russo.
The Law Offices of Freedland Russo is not new to handling cases like this one. They have dedicated their careers to representing clients who have been the victims of pharmaceutical misrepresentation, medical malpractice and catastrophic injuries.
Attorneys Freedland & Russo are helping the family cope and investigate this tragic event. Additionally, the Broward Sheriff’s office has announced that they have launched a separate investigation. Working alongside Michael Freedland and Anthony Russo on this case is Attorney Daniel Harwin and the Law Offices of Mark Dickstein. |
