Davie Woman Dies After Cosmetic Procedure

WESTON, Fla. -- Broward Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman who was rushed to the hospital Saturday from a medical cosmetic center.

Maria Shortall, 38, of Davie, was having a procedure done at the Alyne Center for Cosmetic Surgery when an employee called 911 at 3:10 p.m. to report that a female patient was not breathing. Deputies and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene at 2665 Executive Park Drive in Weston. Paramedics transported the victim to Cleveland Clinic where she was pronounced dead shortly after 4 p.m.

The Broward Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday, and the cause of death is pending. BSO homicide detectives do not plan to release any details regarding the procedure until further investigation is done.
