Shaver v. Ford - . Gary M. Farmer, Jr. and Freedland, Farmer, Russo,
Behren & Sheller, have filed a
lawsuit on behalf of Florida consumers against Ford
Motor Co. for defective cruise control deactivation
switches Last year Ford issued a limited recall of a
few of its vehicles due to the defect involving the
cruise control deactivation switch. This defect is
extremely dangerous in that vehicles with the defect
catch fire even when not in use and with no key in
the ignition. Brenda Shaver's Ford Expedition caught
fire in the middle of the night. Fortunately, the
vehicle was parked in the driveway so her house did
not catch fire, but that is exactly what happened to
many owners. Ford later expanded the recall to cover
almost a decade of manufactured vehicles, and the
recall will allegedly fix the problem with the
fires. However, even this admission and the expanded
recall do not compensate consumers for damages
caused by the fire - damages like the consumer's
insurance deductible or other expenses incurred for
repair of the damage to the vehicle caused by the
fire, or loss of other personal property due to the
fire. The case has been transferred to a
multi-district litigation panel in the federal court
in the Eastern District of Michigan, and Shaver's
legal team is represented on the Plaintiffs'
Steering Committee. |
